The Story of Fred

The Story of Fred

I grew up in a religious family.  When I was still in grade school I began to read the Bible.  I liked to read the Bible but I didn’t understand what said.  In my high school time I have many friends.  One of my friends was a Christian and he invited me to attend their Church to listen to the sermon.  But I only went with him one time.  Later in my college time, I made many bad choices.  I had many vises but my ambition was to be a good soldier in the Philippine Special Forces.

When I graduated from college I continued with my ambition to join the Special Forces.  I went to Cagayan de Oro to turn in my resume at Camp Evangelista.  I had a friend at the camp.  He invited me to their church and I listened to the Word of God.
One day, I went to Camp Evangelista and in the waiting shed there were two girls sitting.   I waited there and one of them started sharing the gospel with me.  I listened to her as she talked.  She said that in Acts 4:12, “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”  We can be saved only by Jesus.  After that I remembered what she said about Jesus and I was interested.

I went back to my home town with my family.  My parents had joined a Bible study.  I’m shocked!!!  Because my parents were devoted to their religious beliefs I thought they would never have Bible study with others.  I remembered what the Word of God said especially about the name of Jesus.  It came to the point that I asked my self.  “What if I die?  Where am I going?”  I wanted to join my parents in their Bible study; it was a chronological Bible study.  I attended this study five times and I now understood about salvation and God’s will for me but I still did not believe.

For a month the Lord reminded me of my need for salvation until May of 2006, I received Jesus as my personal Savior.  I was at church and the Pastor talked about Jesus Christ.  He said that Christ is the Son of God.  He obeyed the plan of God for this world.  He died on the cross and was resurrected from the dead.  After the service I received Christ as my savior.

After I went back home my life stayed the same as before.  I continued with my plan for the future.  I was selfish.  I was proud of my abilities, skills and other things. I knew Jesus loved me but I disobeyed the will of God.  God gave challenges to my life.  One day, when I was driving a multicab going fast down the street.  I attempted to pass another vehicle and had an accident. I asked the Lord why this happened.  I meditated on that time and I surrendered myself to the Lord.  Then I promised Him that I would obey Him as Lord.  I would follow His calling for my life.  I prayed to the Lord and told Him that I was sorry and I asked for a sign of His forgiveness.  I knew I was a sinner.  I had violated the traffic rules.  I knew I would go to prison because of this case.  But by the grace of God, He showed mercy to me.  I was not put in prison.  I returned again to my family.  The Pastor encouraged me to serve other people based on God’s gracious help for me during my trial.  He convinced me to join a youth camp.  I realized the calling of God on my life.  My desire was to serve others and reach out to people and preach the gospel.  I decided to go to Bible school to learn more about God.

I prayed to God that if He would allow me to go to Bible School, I would surrender my plans to Him.  I wanted to preach the gospel to other tribes or to reach out to others who have not heard.  So I am here at the LRF to learn all I can.  I am learning about God’s character, how to share the gospel with others, and how to discipline myself. God has been very faithful to me.
